Expand Yourself Through Rhythm (even more)
- another full day immersion workshop in 12/8 clave

April 2nd , 2011
10 AM to 5 PM
Atlanta Unity Church
3597 Parkway Ln.
Norcross, GA., 30092

Another great workshop led by Chuck Cogliandro of Kumandi Drums (www.kumandi.com).

Chuck says:

"The first 12/8 clave workshop on February 5th was so successful we had to turn a few people away due to space limitations. We will be in the same space this time and can take 25 participants, so don't wait too long to register. One participant saw magic in the connection between the 12/8 and the diatonic (do re mi) musical scale. Many people reported feeling energized, even after 8 hours with this rhythm! I think that's a good result. There were numerous beginner drummers who really enjoyed it. One participant said I could share these words inspired by the experience:

'I witnessed myself letting go of the need to 'play Liberte' [the rhythm we were learning] and instead found myself longing for the feeling of the connection within that rhythm to the GaMaLa, and the pulse, and the breath. To feel myself move within the spaciousness. I so want this. And not just with a drum between my knees, but in my life. To be able to hold my own space and yet feel that space breathe at it's edges. As I come into and out of relationship with others. As I contract in anger or expand in joy. As I attempt to multi-task and do so efficiently as opposed to spiraling in the chaos of the 'crowded space' (as I perceive it).'

I think that's a good result too. We will continue playing in the 12/8 dimension and explore all the possible combinations of the wheel. We'll have opportunities to hold multiple rhythms simultaneously- playing two, playing one and chanting another, etc. We will again move in the world of 12/8 from many different perspectives, including chant, movement, clapping, hearing multiple layers simultaneously, TaKeTiNa, and the learning of a traditional West African djembe rhythm. Bring an open mind and willingness to go for a ride together! We will have a lunch break- there are many excellent restaurants right around the church".

We have a one-hour lunch around 1 PM. You have the option of bringing something and eating on site or going out to eat.
